Zoological and Botanic Garden - a small zoo and botanical gardens located in Torun.

In the second half of the seventeenth century on the territory of Zoological and Botanic Garden was located manor house with outbuildings and a large garden, which is due to large debts taken over by the city council. In 1797 the territory was acquired by Johann Gottlieb Schultz doctor, who turned the area into a botanical garden. The new owner was engaged in a garden with lots of love and brought a lot of innovations. The park has been built bridges and gateways, pavilions and aviaries, greenhouses and a house for the gardener. Rare specimens of plants and trees were brought from different parts of Europe. Mr. Schultz did not create a family, and all his property bequeathed to the Royal Grammar School in Torun for educational purposes. The property is in good hands gardening until the late nineteenth century.

After World War I came to the garden in a state of ruin: it was partly abandoned and partly used as a garden of local residents. Soon, the garden was handed over to the National gymnasium, and since then, his condition improved.

In the sixties of the twentieth century, the garden began to take animals. Soon, there were llamas, parrots, monkeys. In 2007, the zoo is listed in the European Association of Zoos.

Currently, the garden covers an area of ​​3, 81 hectares, are collected 55 species of trees, 24 species of shrubs and 50 species of animals. Visitors may see bears, llamas, lynx, ostriches, kangaroos, donkeys, as well as reptiles and birds. Zoo prides itself on its collection of parrots.
