Church of the Ascension was built in 1789 at the expense of the landowner Andrey Abakumov (according to other sources, the landlord Gabriel Luchaninova).
In the late 18th century by decree of Catherine II all city cemeteries had to be taken outside the city limits. Outside the city it was built three churches in the cemetery with them.
