Cinema Museum - one of the most exciting and popular attractions of the Greek city of Thessaloniki. The museum is run by the Ministry of Culture of Greece and is an independent part of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
The museum is housed in a former port warehouse, at the end of the old waterfront, near Aristotelous Square. The building was built in 1910 by architect Eli Modiano in typical industrial buildings from the late 19th - early 20th century style and recognized as an important historical monument. Its area is 1100 square meters. m.
Cinema Museum of Thessaloniki was founded in 1995 and in 1997 opened its doors to visitors. This year was very significant for Thessaloniki, as it was in 1997, the city was elected European Capital of Culture. Creating a museum it is mainly made possible following the acquisition of an impressive private collection of the well-known local filmmaker Nikos Bililisa.
The museum presents the cameras, projectors, part of the old cinema equipment, lenses, films, special machines for subtitles, photographs, posters and advertising materials, a collection of soundtracks (for all films, released in rent until 1995), and more. Impressive and imposing Film Archive, where you can learn the history of Greek cinema, since 1985, including information on film festivals, community film screenings in the Greek theaters, biographical data known directors and actors, etc. Soon will be available a similar archive illustrating the history of Greek cinema from 1926 to 1985.
In accordance with the charter activities of the Cinema Museum is to collect, study, storage and display of cinematic relics of Greece. Administration of the museum organizes educational and research programs.
