Val di Noto - Valley, located in the south-eastern part of Sicily at the foot of the mountains Ibleyskih. In 1693 the entire region along with numerous cities and towns had been destroyed during the earthquake. Urban regeneration occurs after the cataclysm, has created a unique architectural style, which became known as the "Sicilian Baroque". The most striking examples of this style can be seen in the city of Noto, which today is the main tourist center of the valley.

We know that from the time of the early Renaissance, architects dreamed of building a completely ideal city planning which was reflected rational approach, and its streets and buildings were arranged according to their functionality and beauty .  In reality, only a small part of these projects was to be carried out, and most of them had to be limited to the redevelopment of certain streets, like it was with the street Strada Nuova in Florence .  And only in Sicily architects managed to realize their dreams in life and build several ideal cities .  These new towns and villages have been designed in accordance with the layout of Renaissance and Baroque, where the street or cross each other at a right angle, or start from the city's main sites such as the area .  Large buildings - churches, cloisters, palaces - built so as to create delightful in its beauty panorama .  Many of the towns of Val di Noto had a certain form, for example, Grammichele, in terms of having a hexagon whose center is a square with the parish church and the town hall .  Another feature of these cities is a homogeneous structure of its buildings - widely used in the construction of the Baroque style .

Another tourist attraction in Val di Noto can be called ancient city of Acre, now belongs to the commune of Palazzolo Akreyde. It was founded in the 7th century BC and became the first colony in Sicily korinfiytsev. The ruins of the once prosperous city were discovered in the 16th century, but the first excavations were carried out only three centuries later.

In 2002, eight towns of the valley - Caltagirone, Militello Val di Catania Ying, Catania, Modica, Noto, Palazzolo Akreyde, Ragusa and Scicli - were included in the list of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
