Mount Enos is the highest peak not only of Kefalonia, but also all of the Ionian Islands. Its height is 1628 m (5341 pounds). Together with other peaks form Enos mountain range that runs through the central part of the island. In 1962, the Greek government announced a large part of the mountain range the National Reserve and now the area is under state protection.

Slopes of Enos mainly covered the unique Kefalonian fir (Greek fir), which is home to the island of Kefalonia. Today, however, Kefalonian fir can be found in other parts of the world, but most of it is already crossed species. On the slopes of Enos grows and so-called "black pine". During Venetian domination because of thick dark veil of Enos mountain called Monte Negro (Black Mountain), which has survived to the present day. Because of the strong fire of the forest cover has been destroyed Enos and some places are bare rocky areas, occasionally overgrown with vegetation.

Flora Enos is quite diverse. Among the many species of special interest (except Kefalonian fir) are rare species of violets and orchids. Impressive and fauna of these places. For example, on the slopes you can find rare species of wild horses, large herds of goats, rabbits, turtles and many other animals. It is also home to a large number of predatory birds and not only.

On a clear sunny day with the top of the mountain you can see the Peloponnese and Aetolia, and the island of Zakynthos, Lefkada and Ithaca, which is a stunningly beautiful sight.
