On Castle Square Teplice stands the church of St. John the Baptist, which was built in 1585 on the site of an ancient building, which served for the commission of worship. Its bell tower was erected in 1594, but after only 50 years of the west tower was hit by lightning. Due to fire all the bells had deteriorated. In 1659, the Church of Saint John the Baptist brought three new bells, which cast Mikulas Lev. Two of them survived. One is still used in the temple, and the other was transported to Prague. The fate of the third nobody knows.
At the beginning of the XVIII century facade of the temple rebuilt in the Baroque style. Furniture, which can now be seen in the interior of the church, made around 1730. The image of St. John the Baptist, which can be seen on the main altar and side altars, was created by Czech painter Peter Brundle. Also here are stored paintings by the artist Vaclav Reiner.
In the crypt of the Church of St. John the Baptist are the tombs of two famous representatives of Czech noble families - Vhinskih and Clary-Aldringen, whose life was closely connected with Teplice.
At the moment, the Church of St. John the Baptist is an active, but the building is also used for concerts of symphonic music. Excellent acoustics allows you to turn a simple melody in the divine, so local musical performances are very popular with residents of Teplice and vacationers from the resort.
