Museum "City of Taganrog and Life" is located on the street Frunze, 80, two kilometers from the city center. The museum has exhibits are not many, but they are all interesting and unique.
The museum building was built in the Art Nouveau style, it looks a bit like the building of the Yaroslavl station in Moscow: the trapezoidal shape of the roof of the central building with a metal roof comb, peaked towers, alternating windows, asymmetrical composition. On the left tower was originally seen the initials of the owner, later replaced by a gabled spire topped by a weather vane after 1978. Gate tower decorated with masks lionesses work of Vrubel. Fascia part of the facade is lined with ceramic tiles with colorful mosaic pictures "Departure of rooks", "Battleship." Throughout the Rostov region is the only sample of the facade of monumental painting.
The mansion was built in 1912 by the architecture FO Shechtel and until 1917 belonged hlebotorgovtsa EI Sharonov. After the revolutionary events of 1917, the government nationalized the building, and it continued to live in different guises: sericulture station in 1920-1922, since 1923 - Children's Clinic. During the German occupation, the building was the headquarters of the 1st Panzer Army General E.fon Kleist, and after the liberation of Taganrog - various municipal services and facilities, including Ordzhonikidze district committee of the CPSU.
In 1978-1981 it carried out a complete restoration of the building and there was a museum of "Urban planning and life of Taganrog." The museum itself is unique in that it is the only such museum in Russia. The exhibition features old postcards, plans, historical sites and monuments in Taganrog, preserve the unique architectural sculpture of XIX - early XX centuries. Also on display unique pieces of arts and crafts masterpieces of Western European and Russian glass, pieces of furniture from the time of Peter to the present day.
In 1995, the museum has been assigned to the architectural monuments of the Russian Federation.
