Central Museum of Communications Alexander Stepanovich Popov is one of the oldest Russian science and technology museums. Located in central St. Petersburg, close to St. Isaac's Square, in the former palace of Chancellor Alexander Bezborodko - Chief Director of Posts. Later, the building belonged to the Postal Department.
The museum was founded in September 1872 and is dedicated to the history of the development of various forms of communication, including mail, telegraph, radio. It was originally formed as a telegraph museum on the idea of Charles Luders - Director of the Telegraph Department. At the root of his birth and development was Nicholas Evstafievich Slavinskiy. Until 1911, he worked as director of the I-th of the museum. In the period from 1884 to 1919 years, the institution existed as postal and telegraph museum. Since 1924 it was renamed the Museum of national communications, and in 1945 became the Central Museum of Communications Popov.
In 1974, the museum was closed due to an emergency condition of the building and the necessary repairs. In 2000 he was drafted development of the museum, which provided its opening in 2003. And in 2003 the reconstruction of the building was completed.
The museum has exhibits and materials on the history of mail and postage stamps, including postcards, letters, which passed the mail, stamped envelope, rare archival materials showing the history of mail in our country. These exhibits provide an opportunity to trace the evolution of mail and registration of the historical period XVIII-XIX centuries to create a mail-art, one of the modern trends in art.

The museum's collection of instruments of Alexander Stepanovich Popov began composing in 1926-1927 years.
