Rotunda of St. George - an ancient monument of architecture and at the same time serving the church, located in the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia city. Erected at the beginning of the IV century, during the reign of the Roman Emperor Constantine I the Great, and the heyday of ancient Sofia (then called Cerdic). Rotunda of St. George - is the oldest building of the Sofia, extant whole. It is a cylindrical domed building height of about 14 meters and a diameter of more than 9 meters. Altar room in the shape of a square, the sides of which there are four symmetrically placed niches.

Originally, the building had no religious significance, but after the recognition of Christianity, Rome was transformed first into christening, and later, during the reign of Justinian the Great - to prayer. At the same time the church was given the name in honor of St. Great Martyr George. During Ottoman rule, in the first half of the XVI century frescoes were painted over with white paint, and the church itself became a mosque with the name of Gul-Dzhamasy. After the liberation of Bulgaria (1893), while the temple was the mausoleum of Prince Alexander Battenberg.

In 1913, in the church were carried out restoration work. Now, the rotunda of St.. George - a functioning church, which are performed daily services in Church Slavonic.
