Palazzo Salimbeni, also known as the Rocca Salimbeni - It looks like a castle, a historic building in Siena, which today is the office of one of the oldest banks in Italy «Monte dei Paschi di Siena».
A three-storey palace was built in the 14th century, most probably on the foundations existed in the 12-13 th centuries other buildings. In the 19th century it was rebuilt in neo-Gothic style, with some details like jagged battlements, blind arches and vaulted triple windows, which inspired the architects of another medieval building - the Palazzo Pubblico. Later, in the 20th century, on the reconstruction of the building by the architect Pierluigi Spadolini, which the bank's management instructed to update the appearance of its historic residences. He gave him the features of the Sienese Gothic. The middle floor is decorated with wonderful views, crowned with pointed arches with coats of arms of noble families of the city.
Palazzo Salimbeni, located in the historic center of Siena, and is visible from afar, goes to the small Piazza Salimbeni, which is a monument to the Italian religious figures, politicians and economists Sallustius Bandini, dated 1882. The area is along the famed Via Banco di Sopra, which, incidentally, is the only access to the Piazza Salimbeni. Nearby are no less magnificent ancient palaces - Palazzo Tantuchchi (mid 16th century) and Renaissance Palazzo Spannokki (1470), designed by Giuliano da Maiano. All three of the palace in the 19th century have been restored by the architect Giuseppe Partin, who gave the entire Piazza Salimbeni its modern look.
