Church of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky is located on the island of Sveti Stefan and was built in the XV century. Initially, the church was dedicated to the Holy Virgin. Until today, the temple remained only ruins remained the foundation. This unique construction of the Orthodox survived many historical events.

In the church walls in the XVIII century it was buried the children who died during an epidemic of scarlet fever. After the earthquake in 1667 seriously damaged the temple. By the end of 30-ies of it remained in ruins.

The temple was renamed in 1938, which is connected with the request of Mary Karadjordjevic, who just build their residence on the island of Sveti Stefan. The church built a monastery konak, after which the temple of the church began to serve in the royal court. Renaming explained by the fact that the Queen Maria loved Russian prince. Patriarch Gavrilo (Dozhich) blessed the dedication of the church of St. Alexander Nevsky.

In 1959 the island was sold to Singaporean construction company, which planned to build on the island of giant hotel complex. In the same year the church was partially destroyed that in its place you can build a casino and terrace for dancing. In that period, preserved only part of the iconostasis and bell tower, which kept Pastrovici, members of the Montenegrin Orthodox dynasty.

Today the controversy over the church and not the end. Sightseeing temporarily impossible.
