Not far from the scene of the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, almost on the banks of the Guadalquivir River in Seville is a building of Charity Hospital de la Caridad, or Charity Hospital. The founder of the hospital was Don Miguel Manyara, who after the death of his young wife decided to build a hospital on the site.
Hospital de la Caridad, was built on the ruins of an old chapel in 1662. The author of the project was the architect Bernardo Simon de Pineda, he is also the creator of many sculptures and other decorative elements in the facade and the interior decoration of the building. The facade of the church hospital performed mainly in Baroque style and visually divided horizontally into three parts. The two upper parts are decorated with tiles depicting St. James and George, as well as the virtues - Faith, Hope and Love. In the third, the lower part of the facade is the entrance, here, on both sides of the door are arranged sculptures of San Fernando and San Ermenehildo.
Major work on the design of the church of the hospital were performed by outstanding artists of Seville Bartolomé Murillo and Valdes Leal, in particular, Leal was painted dome of the church and the lunettes on the sides of the altar, he also participated in the creation and design of the altar. Work on the creation of the altar of the church was completed in 1674, it is located in the center of the sculpture "Lamentation of Christ", created by Pedro Roldanom.
