Castle Fraser is located near the village of Kemna in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Construction of the existing castle began in 1575 and was completed in 1636. But the archaeological excavations suggest that the massive square tower already existed here in 1400. If we look at the plan of the castle, it is a so-called Z-type when the corners of a large central tower diagonally across two towers are attached smaller.

Embossed on the north wall of the castle inscription "I Bel" suggests that the construction of the castle led by the famous Scottish architect John Bell of the time. In favor of this speaks also the similarity of the castle with the neighboring locks Kregivar, Kreyts and Midmar that were built under the direction of the architects of the Bell family.

In the XVIII century the castle was rebuilt in the classical style, it appeared south entrance and new windows with latticed binding. These studies were conducted under the direction of Eliza Fraser. At the same time, it is engaged in redevelopment of the castle grounds. The interiors of the castle are made in 1820-50 GG architect John Smith and William Bёrnom. The library is a magnificent example of Regency style, typical of Smith. Gothic interiors Bern not survived, except the body, which is now in the church Kemna. As with any old castle, contains his ghost - the ghost of the murdered beautiful princess.

Today the castle belongs to the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public from Easter to October, the gardens and grounds are open year round.
