Photo: Government Palace
Government Palace, built by local masons, was built in neo-Gothic style, designed by Roman architect Francesco Azzurri. Construction, which began in 1884, lasted 10 years. The facade of the palace is decorated with coats of arms of the Republic of locks. The upper part of the palace is decorated with Guelph battlements. To the left of the facade is a tower-bell tower with a clock, which depicts the figure of St. Marina standing between Sts. Agathius and Leo.
Before the government palace is located Freedom Square, or as it is called, Pianella, the center of which stands the majestic Statue of Liberty sculptor Galetti, donated to the San Marino by Countess Otilia Geyrot Wagener in 1876.
