Petrovsky monastery is located on the shores of Lake Nero .  It was founded in the 13th century .  Ordynsky prince, a miracle worker Peter, just in the place where he miraculously appeared Apostles Peter and Paul .  The prince arrived in Rostov from the Horde, along with the Bishop of Rostov Kirill .  The latter, when he was at Berke Khan, uncle of Prince, told him about the Christian faith and the miracles made by Leonty Rostovsky .  Prince secretly from his relatives left the Horde and decided to convert to Christianity .  He caught up with Cyril and persuaded to take it with you .  Arriving in Rostov, he lived with the bishop, went to worship and tried as much as possible to get acquainted with Orthodoxy, and when he learned of the death of Khan Berke, they were baptized, taking the name of Peter .  Once on the lake during a falconry prince did not have time to go home, and he had to spend the night in the forest .  That's when he came, and two saints, who told him that this place should be a temple in their honor .  They then handed the prince two sacks - with silver and gold - and disappeared .  That night happened to the vision and St. Ignatius, Bishop of Rostov new, he, too, were the apostles with the command to put the temple .

Soon, a new church was built on the shore of the lake. Peter lived to a ripe old age in Rostov and left behind numerous offspring (his descendants for centuries lived in Rostov under the name Chirikov), at the end of his earthly journey he took vows.

With the founding of the monastery Petrovsky linked to another legend, according to which Peter, Prince Orda, asked for the land under the monastery at Prince of Rostov, and he laughingly suggested the prince as much land as he could strewn with coins. Without hesitation, Peter began to put a coin on the ground of those bags that gave him the apostles: the coin did not end as long as it was covered with a vast area of the future monastery. Thus began the history of the monastery.

The monastery began to be erected already after Peter died (it happened in 1290). Prince Peter began to read from the 14th c., The local celebration was set to 1547

For a long time the monastery buildings were made of wood. In 1682-1684 gg. It was erected a stone Peter and Paul Cathedral on the site of the old wood. It was a spacious five-domed cathedral church's cross. On the front wall of the cathedral church was painted image, tells about the phenomenon of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Prince. The church walls cut through twelve windows with iron bars. By the church adjoined stone porch, covered with boards. Above the entrance to the church has colorful image of Jesus Christ.

In the church were kept under wraps relics of St.. Peter. In the same cathedral under a canopy of carved on a high pedestal was empty of cancer. Cathedral church differed remarkable iconostasis, which is an icon of old letter; special attention to the drawn icon of St. Peter with scenes from his life, in the limit dedicated to him. Over the grave of Prince were three belonging to him during his lifetime icons: St. Nicholas, Our Lady Hodegetria, Martyr Dimitri, have excellent writing. In cancers of the Monk Peter was done a lot of healing, as evidenced by the chronicles of the monastery. In Soviet times, the cathedral was destroyed and its appearance today can be judged only according to the descriptions of the past.

Another stone church, which is the refectory, built in honor of Our Lady of Praise in 1692-1696 gg., It has been preserved to our time. The temple is a two-story spacious building, which has a square and a large bulk of the refectory. Once its walls were decorated with carved stone frames on the windows, friezes and cornices, fine kokoshniki. Today, from the decor were only some fragments.

In 1805, it began construction of the abbot, which was completed in 1811 in the 1835-1845 biennium. the monastery was surrounded by a fence with a quadrangular massive towers. Today, from the fence almost nothing left, but the tower survived. In Soviet times, they were used as living quarters, as well as the abbot.

The monastery was closed in 1928, it was translated brothers in Abraham monastery. Three-tiered bell tower was destroyed, the holy gates and fence dismantled and transferred to other buildings for the needs of the inhabitants of the Petrovskaya Sloboda.

The revival of the monastery began in the late 1990s. In 1999, on the site of the destroyed cathedral church installed a memorial cross. And in 2000 it began the transfer of the buildings of the monastery of the Orthodox community. At the entrance to the monastery is set board, where you can see how the reviving monastery was before.
