Quezon Memorial - a national park and a mausoleum located in Quezon City, the former capital of the Philippines. The park has an oval shape and limited Dear Oval. The main attraction of the park is the mausoleum that holds the remains of the second President Manuel Quezon and his wife Aurora Quezon.
In fact, this place has been reserved for the construction of the nation's capitol, which had to meet the Philippine Congress. In November 1940, even the laying of the first stone, but the construction was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War. After the war, President Sergio Osmena issued a decree on the early collection of folk remedies for the construction of the memorial to the memory of his predecessor, Manuel Quezon. Then there was a contest for the best design of the memorial, which won the Filipino architect Federico Ilustre. In addition to plans to build a monument to itself as a complex of three buildings - the library, museum and theater.
According to the project the monument was to consist of three vertical pylons symbolizing the major geographic regions of the country - Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, and surrounded by sad angel holding a Asiatic jasmine (the national flower). The height of each pylon - 66 meters (the age at which he died Manuel Quezon). Inside pylons supposed to place two-storey building - a gallery from which visitors could see the hearse Quezon, made on the model of the hearse Napoleon Bonaparte.
Construction of the memorial began in 1952, but progress was very slow, partly because of the cost of imported Carrara marble, which brought the blocks are already in place and cut. There were problems with the management of the funds collected for construction, as well as the theft of marble. Only in 1978, the monument was completed - the 100th anniversary of the birth of Manuel Quezon. His remains were moved here in 1979. And in 2005, here is placed the remains of his wife Aurora Quezon.
Unfortunately, to plan the building of the library, museum and theater have not been constructed. However, at the memorial were two small museums - in one store personal belongings of Manuel Quezon, and the second is dedicated to the history of the city of Quezon City.
