The famous Imperial House, who previously served as the personal residence of the Czech Republic, is now part of the City Hall and is connected to it by a covered walkway. The building now houses an information center, where any traveler can get a free city map and help in drawing up the route of Pilsen, and wooden toys shop.
Imperial House itself consists of two old houses combined into one as a result of the reconstruction carried out in 1604-1607 by the architect George. M. Filippi. The initials of the architect can be seen on one of the portals of the building. Above the second portal stamped date "1793". One of the houses belonging to the imperial residence, was built in the middle of the XVI century by the architect Giovanni di Stutz, a second was built later. Front of the house is decorated with the figure of the knight Roland, who holds a halberd. However, this character is called Plzenec Zumbera. This is the name can be read at his feet. Statue of a knight was set at a mansion in the middle of the XIX century. Previously, she was decorated with a Renaissance fountain in the Market Square.
Two mansions on the Market Square were bought by Emperor Rudolf II in 1599. Then the entire royal court was forced to move to Pilsen to escape the scourge of the Middle Ages - the plague. Since the city was not a castle worthy of the Emperor, the ruler of the Czech Republic was forced to purchase several noble houses and convert them into one. The emperor held in Pilsen 9 months, and then left the city because of the outbreak of the same plague. Since then, in one of the halls of the Imperial House are preserved wall paintings.
