Its residents were required to patrol the border and to raise the alarm in case of an attack of the enemy. Near the town is crossed by important trade route.

The second informal name of the city - the "Gateway to the Bohemian Selva". In the XVI century Klatovy was considered one of the richest cities in the Bohemian. Since the beginning of the XIX century Klatovy received another name - "city of lilies". The climate proved suitable for the cultivation of flowers. They are grown for sale in neighboring countries. Until now, in the city center, you can see the first carnation grown in the city.

The main square of Klatovy area called Mira. It has a square shape and is the heart of the old city. In principle, it can be considered the same age as the city itself. Since ancient times, but the area still preserved fortifications: a powerful wailing several towers. They can be seen, since access to them open.

One should visit the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady, which is adjacent to the two towers: White and Black. The black has room for torture. In the same area the facade comes another church - the Church of the Immaculate Conception and St. Ignatius. For its construction Jesuits, while hosting in the city, invited Italian architects. Now the church has Baroque features. In its dungeons can see ancient burial.
