Pitiunt - so the ancient city of antiquity, once located on Cape Pitsunda Abkhazia. The area is also known as Colchis and it immediately suggests the Odyssey and his adventures, sung by Homer, the Golden Fleece to Colchis and campaign for him the ancient Greeks. Even written mention of Pitiunt dated back to II century BC in the annals of Artemidorus of Ephesus, and in fact they may not be the first! According to the researchers the Black Sea, its name from the ancient city was growing around the coast of this place pine forests. By the way, the name of the Abkhazian sounds like Amzara that the translation is - "Pine Grove".

Pitsundsky complex now part of the Historical-Architectural Reserve "Great Pitiunt." The center of this complex is the magnificent temple, according to historians, referring to the X century, surrounded by thick walls, built of local limestone and mortar. Three-aisled, cross-shaped plan of the temple architecture and today impresses tourists and the faithful. The excavations at the beginning of this century, the complex opened foundations residence of Bishop Pitsunda, which chronicles participated in the Ecumenical Council of Nicaea First 325 years. The fortress wall encircling the complex, many times reinforced and fortified, the last time - during the invasion of the Turks in the XIV century.

Among the tour facilities of the complex stands today, serving the chapel of the XVIII century, ancient stone dolmen - a sarcophagus for the burial and, of course, unique in sound and largest organ, the third largest in the former Soviet Union.
