The temple has a lot of weight in the structure of Buddhist Thailand, its full name sounds like a Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat Voramahavihan, abbreviated as it is also called Wat Yai. The church was founded in 1357 during the reign of King Maha Thammaradsha I STATES Sukhothai.
Many Thais and Buddhists of Southeast Asia believe that here is the most beautiful statue of Buddha "Phra Buddha Chinnarat" in a pose of victory over Mara. On the territory of Wat Yai is the National Museum, which has a rich collection of art and architecture of the Kingdom of Sukhothai. It also notes the various holidays and festivals, including the annual fair Phra Buddha Chinnarat Fair, which takes place every third day of the sixth lunar month. In the first weekend of October in the river near the temple can be seen on the traditional racing dragon boats.
