Moracnik Monastery is located in the east of the island of the same name, on the southern shore of Lake Skadar. It is 13 kilometers from the border with Albania, and 19 kilometers from the Montenegrin Virpazar.

The first mention of the construction of the monastery can be found in Moracnik literacy ruler of Zeta Balsha III. According to his wishes and entirely on his facilities had been built Church of the Assumption, consecrated in honor of the unique icon of Virgin Mary Three Hands in the period from 1404 by 1417. Like all temples of Balsic, the church is a small dome building with three Conch. In addition, it was built further chapel of St. John of Damascus. First the inner decoration of the church was painted various frescoes depicting saints. By the time we were on the same painting subtle traces.

It includes: a stone fence, which is decorated with monumental entrance gate; Exclusionary Corps in the east; refectory in the south; the remains of a four-storey tower, on top of which there was a chapel. Monastery lasted very long, because after coming to power of the Turks, he quickly emptied and was virtually destroyed.

Partial restoration of the monastery was carried out in 1963 - has been restored dome above the church. In 1985, archaeological work followed, during which they found the remains of another church, located on the highest point of the island. It was the Church of the Transfiguration, built around the same time that the Church of the Assumption.
