  Industrial coal mining in the Mecsek Mountains in Pec began in the late 18th century after Joseph II allowed to open a mine in the countryside Vasas far from Pec. The Danube Steamshipping Company launched a geological survey in 1852 and for this purpose bought local land. At this time, large-scale mining of minerals is necessary in this area. Using technical innovation and competent conducting social policy, the company has almost a century defined the life of the whole region. After the Second World War, coal and uranium mines in the region has gained international significance.

  Mining Museum introduces visitors not only with geology, which means the development of ore mining technologies, but also with the history of the region. The peculiarity of the museum - is the location of the exhibition halls on an area of ​​400 meters at a depth of 10 meters under the ground.
