King Saint Stephen established the Bishopric of Pécs in 1009. Perhaps, in choosing the place played a factor here was an old church, consecrated bishop of Salzburg in about 870 year. However, in the 11th century church burned, and this place was a three-nave basilica built in the Romanesque style with two towers. Centuries later, around the cathedral to build new buildings, and thus form a complex of buildings representing the Bishop's Palace.
The history of the palace dates back to the 12th century. His first "lodger" was the Frankish Bishop Boniperti, was already the second Hungarian Mor. In the 15-16 centuries the palace was rebuilt in Renaissance style, while Bishop György Klimo completely changed his appearance in the years 1751-1770. In the northern and eastern wings it appeared the second floor, and the southern wing was extended. The facade was rebuilt in the same baroque style. Between 1838 and 1852 years, it has been restored in the spirit of the eastern facade of the Renaissance. Facade facing to the Dome square, decorated with force projections and wooden columns. Between the two gate towers balcony balustrade.
Bishop's Palace opened to the public only in the summer months every Thursday. You can visit the lobby, waiting room, private chapel, library, dining room, conference room and the Habsburg room.
