Temple of Friendship is the very first work of Charles Cameron in Pavlovsk park. When the architect was considering a plan of the park, he has already identified a place for this facility. Archive of the Pavlovsk Palace Museum contains a draft of the Temple of Friendship. It presents a section of the facade 2 options plan, signed by Charles Cameron, and working drawings. It is also able to maintain and cost estimates for construction work, compiled by Gregory Pilnikova (architect working at Cameron). At the beginning of June 1780 approved the estimate, it was soon made and the foundation of the pavilion.

Temple of Friendship has a view of the ancient temple-rotunda with no windows, with hollow outer wall with first oak door, surrounded by a ring of 16 columns Greek Doric.

Temple of Friendship was conceived as a young couple, the grand return gift for Catherine II donated their land. She also pavilion was dedicated. Above the entrance decided to write letters of gold: "Love, respect and devotion to the first owners of Pavlovsk dedicated this temple to give them the land." But the policy was to intervene. In the summer of 1780 the church was laid. The ceremony was attended by Austrian Emperor Joseph II. After the solemn events after assurances of friendship was uncomfortable to specify the name, who first conceived the dedication, even if it was the Empress. In the museum you can see only one surviving letter "s."

In 1782 it was launched decoration. Control of the works carried Pilnikov architect. K. Mikhailov were made plastering, painting the building was made painter Rudolf IV. Modeling a frieze with dolphins, sculpted roses, wreaths of vines was cast master Bernasconi. Carved furniture: 16 banquettes decorated with a frieze of olive wreaths and twigs of myrtle, with legs in the form of torches of love, by engraver, sculptor Charlemagne.

Temple of Friendship is filled with allegories and symbols. The outer walls are decorated with the top 16 medallions with stucco sculptures (model JD Rochet, modeler Bernasconi). In the niche opposite the entrance was a statue of Minerva, goddess of wisdom, made of marble, with features reminiscent of Empress Catherine II. The sculpture is to clarify who was dedicated to the Temple of Friendship. In 1792 it was replaced by a plaster statue of the empress in the image of Cybele, Ceres (JD Rochet work).

Temple of Friendship is blank walls, no windows. Light came through the glazed circular hole located in the center of the dome. Fearing that there will be dark, Cameron England was issued a special magnifying glass. In the summer, the pavilion is always light. The walls of the pavilion rotunda built of brick and plastered. Initially they were light gray or even white. Later they were painted in yellow.

Undoubtedly, the Temple of Friendship is one of the best architectural buildings of the ensemble of Pavlovsk Park. Charles Cameron was chosen for it the ideal place on the banks of the river Slavyanka. Pavilion can be admired from different view points, he opens it partially, then completely. From afar it seems small and the air near - monumental. It is no coincidence in the park was built a viewing platform.
