The city gates, once it separates the city from the outskirts and are part of the system of fortifications, called green. It is a high tower, on top of which is an observation deck, from which can be seen not only Pardubice, but also, for example, kunětice mountain castle, located a few kilometers from the city. Just a few meters from the Green Gate is the main area of Pardubice, around which are concentrated all the major attractions.
The tower of the Green Gate was rebuilt in the XVI century from older buildings, dating back to 1330-1340 years. It is still considered the tallest building Pardubice. Unfortunately, other protective fortifications have not survived, but looking at this tower, you can draw conclusions about the power of the city walls.
In fact, the Green Gate - it's not one building. Himself Portal overlooking the city, and a tower located nearby.
Facade Green gates decorated in the Renaissance style and is decorated with a bas-relief of authorship made masterful Mikoláš Aleš. This commemorative panel you can see some scenes from the life of the first owners of the town - lords of Pardubice.
The interior of the tower an exhibition dedicated to the history of this building and other municipal buildings. For example, here you can see the layout of the church of St. Bartholomew. Among the other exhibits is worth noting the ancient documents, maps, photographs and paintings.
Once the right of the green gate was a deep ditch, which had been thrown across the bridge. The moat was filled, and the bridge was removed, so now nothing reminds of those times. Gates are located right in the middle of the street, but did not seem to be superfluous, as ideally suited to the historical appearance of the city.
