The theater "Nikitsky Gate" was founded in 1983. Its founder was the director, playwright, composer, People's Artist of Russia, holder of the Order of Merit, an academician of the American Academy of Pushkin - Mark G. Rozovskii.

Since its establishment and until 1987 theater studio there in the position of an amateur team. In January 1987, the theater received the status of a professional theater and is completely self-supporting organization. In October 1991, the theater became a state. Mark Rozovskii created an interesting theater with a magnificent ensemble cast. He is a talented amateur team transformed into a highly theater.

In January 1999, the decision of the Government of Moscow theater was transferred to the building of the former cinema "Repeat film." The building was a small room. It contained only 80 spectators. The building needed major repairs. After the renovation, the theater had a second stage - basic, with room for 250 seats.

He has a unique repertoire, it is saturated with performances of various genres: in the repertoire of organic combination of musicals, comedy, drama, poetry performances, tragicomedy and philosophical parable. All performances are united by one concept - "the idea of ​​humanity and is psychological."

In January 2012, the theater "Nikitsky Gate" opened its doors to spectators in the new reconstructed building of the former cinema Repeat film. This event was a theater waiting for 12 years. New auditorium for 198 people, it comfortable chairs and a good view of the scene is equipped with the latest audio equipment with modern technology, a modern lighting equipment.
