Church of Cosmas and Damian, Moscow is located in the heart of the capital, in the city of China. The stone church was built in 1564 on the site of the burnt wooden church of Cosmas and Damian built in 1462.

The church was a two-colored quadrangle with five cupolas. In 1640 the north side, the church was built a chapel. It was consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin. In 1803 the church building was rebuilt in the classical style. The church has a new refectory and a new bell tower. The restructuring has not affected the most ancient part - temple Cosmas and Damian. In 1926-1927 the church was declared a historical and architectural monument and has been restored.

In 1890, by order of the church, next to it was built apartment house. There are apartments, rent, shops and church library. In 1911-12 he rebuilt the house's architect P. Visnevsky.

According to legend, in the temple Cosmas and Damian in the Old Paneh Ivan the Terrible was crowned with Vasilisa Melentyeva - his sixth wife. It is believed that the temple was a house church famous Moscow boyars Shein, whose court is located nearby, on Ilyinke.

In 1930 nearly destroyed the temple, turning it into a disfigured structure. In this dilapidated building housed commercial firms and various institutions. In 1995 he returned to the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church. Today, restored the northern part of the church, issued in Staropansky alley. Restorers follow Project D. Sukhov, who spent the restoration of the church in the years 1926-1927.
