In the early 18th century on the Upper Market Square was built a complex of buildings of Gostiny Dvor - a place where the best shops were located in Minsk, in which zahazhivali wealthy visitors and guests.
In the 90s of the 18th century architect Kramer reconstructed the complex by uniting all the buildings together and giving them the features of the classical style. In 1909 Gostiny Dvor, following the vogue for Art Nouveau, has acquired a new look. It housed a merchant's club, which played the composer Scriabin, poets K.Chukovsky and Vladimir Mayakovsky and the Minsk branch of the Azov-Don Bank.
In 1917 the complex was located, the Executive Committee of the Western Front, where meetings were held executive committee Minsk Council, and in September and October '17 held the 1st and 2nd Northwest Conference of the RSDLP (b). At last it was announced that the transfer of power in Minsk in the hands of the Soviets.
After the revolution, the building of Gostiny Dvor were Executive Committee, Board of Workers', Soldiers' and Peasants' Deputies of the Western region and the front and the other higher organs of Soviet power in Belarus.
