Alexandra Park Gardens is located on the south bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne, opposite Federation Square and downtown. The park was founded in 1901 by Carlo Catani, chief engineer of the department of public works, and today he is listed Victorian Heritage because of its historical and archaeological value.

Since the founding of Melbourne in 1835, the territory in which today stretch Alexandra Gardens, used for logging, cattle grazing and the production of bricks. It regularly floods, while in 1900 was not dug a channel to strengthen and expand the Yarra River.
