National Maritime Museum in Madrid is located in the heart of the capital, in the building of the Main Department of the Navy of Spain. The idea of creating a museum dedicated to the maritime history of Spain, owned by Antonio de Valdes and Fernandez-Bazan, who served as Secretary of the Navy Minister under King Charles IV. Although the museum was founded in 1792, for various reasons, its opening took place only in 1843, when Queen Isabella II at the Palace of the Soviets in the High Street of Madrid.
