Fortress Fortaletstsa do Monte was the main outpost that defended the city from intrusion attempts by the Dutch in 1622. Also, a fortress which was built Jesuits defended St. Paul's Cathedral, located nearby, from pirate raids. Subsequently, the church still has been destroyed, and now the former city walls with panoramic views over its ruins.

Museum of Macau was opened in April 1998 and today is under the protection of UNESCO. On the ground floor there are exhibits devoted to religion, culture and history of Macau and Portuguese influence on the region as a whole.
