Dominican Monastery, also known as the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, - one of the oldest and most valuable churches in Lublin, one of the oldest buildings in the city (in 2013 celebrated 760 years).

The Dominicans came to Lublin in the 13th century, and the monastery was founded by Casimir III the Great in the first half of the 14th century. In 1575, the city suffered a terrible fire, during which the entire architectural ensemble was lost. The church was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. In subsequent years, eleven were built, among which the most interesting is the Baroque chapel of the Holy Cross or Tyszkiewicz. The chapel was built in the years 1645-1658. The dome of the chapel is covered with frescoes depicting the Last Judgment.

The building of the monastery is located south of the basilica. After the suppression and expulsion of monks in the 80 years of the 19th century, the monastery barracks were located. The monastery had planned to restore in the 30 years of the twentieth century, but after the war the idea was abandoned. In 1945 most of the monastery took the Puppet Theatre. Andersen. In the postwar years, it began as a large-scale restoration of the building of the monastery and the basilica. In June 1967, Dominican Church received from Pope Paul VI the title of Minor Basilica.

The architectural ensemble is proud of Lublin, as well as one of the main tourist attractions of the city.
