Devetakskaya cave is located near the village of Devetaki in Bulgaria. 18 km to the southwest of the cave is the town of Lovech. You can find other names of this cave - Oknata or Maarat.
Cave entrance sufficiently large 35 m in width and 30 m in height. Upon entering, visitors enter a 40-meter corridor, which extends to the great hall. After another 200 meters there are two branches. The size of the entrance of the right branch is 2, 5 m in height and 5 to 7 m in width. The corridor of the branches gradually expanded and moves hall, an area of a little more 500 square meters. m. At the end of the right branch is a small circular gallery, called "the altar." The left branch, in contrast to the dry and warm right, has a humid climate. Through the central hall of the left branch and on its entire length, which is about 2 km, flows a stream, flowing then into the river Osam.
The ceiling of the cave are Devetakskoy 7 openings, through which the main hall and branch sunlight penetrates.
Devetakskaya cave is rich in remains of the culture of the time 6 - 4 thousand years BC, that is, New Stone age period. In the middle of the last century Devetakskuyu cave is going to turn into a warehouse, in connection with which it conducted a lot of research. Scientists came to the conclusion that in different historical periods the cave was inhabited by people. The earliest found remains of a human life scientists refer to the period of 70 thousand years BC, that is, by the middle of the Paleolithic era.
