Botanical Garden of Linz is one of the most beautiful in Europe. On the area of ​​43 thousand square meters, there are over 10,000 different species of plants. The Botanical Garden is known for its fine collection of cacti and orchids. Natural conditions allow grouping of plants in magnificent natural scenery, visitors were able to present themselves in their natural habitat.

In the early 20th century botanical garden was created by the Society of Natural Science as a public institution. However, almost all plants died during the Second World War. After the war, the Board of Education of Upper Austria, in 1946 filed an application for construction of a new Botanical Garden. The garden was opened in 1950 in an area of ​​1, 8 hectares. In 1961, the garden area was expanded through the purchase of adjacent land. In subsequent years, the botanical garden were numerous reforms construction of greenhouses, conservatories and administrative buildings. In 2000 the garden was opened open-air theater with 100 seats, a conference room and a café, the opportunity for cultural events.

The public part of the botanical garden is divided into 31 thematic sector. There is a seasonal flower beds, shrubs, beech and mixed forests, endangered species of plants. There department of herbs and spices, as well as rare vegetables. In this department are held from time to time special exhibitions. In the rose garden you can see the very rare varieties. Widely represented the flora of Africa, Asia, the Caucasus, Japan.

The closed part of the botanical garden located in five greenhouses. Here you can see a large collection of orchids, tropical water lilies, including the giant water lily with large leaves (up to 1, 8 meters).
