Tatrzhansky National Park - National Park, located in the Tatras Malopolska region in southern Poland. The headquarters of the park is located in the town of Zakopane. At the same park, located in the north of Slovakia, the two national parks form a common nature reserve.
The first calls for the protection of the Tatras was at the end of the 19th century. In 1925, the first efforts were made to establish a national park in cooperation with Slovakia. Formally, a certain buffer zone has been established in 1937. Tatrzhansky National Park was founded in 1954 by the decision of the Polish government. Initially it covered an area of 215, 56 square kilometers, at the moment the park has become a little less - 211 64 sq.km. Of these 151, 91 square kilometers is covered by forests.
In 1992, Polish and Slovak national parks in the Tatras, together received the status of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
National Park encompasses one of the two alpine mountain ranges in Poland. The landscape consists of sharp peaks and valleys with numerous rock formations. The highest peak in Poland - Rysy located at an altitude of 2499 meters above sea level, is located here. The park has about 650 caves, the longest of which is 18 km and the deepest - 814 meters. Six caves are open to tourists. The park has more than 30 mountain lakes, called Becoming (Pol .: pond). These ponds are an important part of the landscape. The largest lake - Marine eye with an area of 349,000 square meters. m. Tatrzhanskom Reserve is a waterfall, whose height is 70 meters.
The main trees in the park can be called fir, European beech, spruce. Other typical vegetation types - Swiss pine, giant crocuses and thistles. The park is home to wild goats and marmots, brown bears and lynxes, wolves and otters.
More than 270 km of hiking trails were laid to rest in Tatrzhanskom National Park.
