Memorial Church the memory of Russian soldiers was established in honor of the Russian soldiers who died in 1813 during the Battle of Nations near Leipzig. Troops of Russia, Austria, Sweden and Prussia defeated Napoleon Bonaparte, thus putting an end to its dominance in Europe.
A monument in honor of the battle was set only a hundred years later, the church was built next to it in memory of the more than 20 thousand Russian soldiers who bravely fought and were killed during that terrible battle. This memorial church has another name - the Holy Temple Aleksievsky.
Construction of the building in 1913 engaged the architect Vladimir Pokrovsky, all the work carried out by national donations, not only Russian, but also the Germans. It is a beautiful church marquee that has a bulbous dome and the square base. Its height is 65 meters, and the church has a great resemblance to the Church of the Assumption, located in Moscow's Kolomenskoye. On the massive tower with a dome is eight-pointed cross, and over the church - bell tower with seven bells.
The interior decoration of the church reminds the XVII century, it is situated seven-tier iconostasis, which was presented the Don Cossacks. From the State Duma of Russia's Memorial Church is 800-pound chandelier with lamps of tesserae, arranged in five rows.
The church building is also a small lower church, which bears the name of St. Panteleimon. He was consecrated in 1930, it is committed everyday and evening services. At the entrance there is a memorial plaque, where German and Russian, describes the quantitative loss of soldiers who participated in the Battle of the Nations.
