The mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke, located on the famous Salt Lake in Larnaca is one of the most famous mosques not only in Cyprus, but also all over the world .  She - the fourth most important Islamic shrine after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa .  In addition, it is absolutely unusual for a mosque was erected in honor of the woman - Umm Haram .  Some sources claim that she was the foster mother of the Prophet Muhammad, others - that she was the wife of one of his close .  But, anyway, her name is inextricably linked with the founder of Islam .  According to legend, she, like other Arab noble ladies who had to accompany their museum in the military campaigns, the army went to her husband to Cyprus .  But there on the ridiculous accident she was killed when he fell from a mule .  They buried her on the lake, and on her grave was a huge stone weighing 15 tons .  It is believed that this block is a fragment of the meteorite, which has healing properties .  Therefore, for a long time to it flocked pilgrims, eager miracle .  It is the place where it was buried Umm Haram, later, after the victory of the Ottomans in the battle for the island, was built a small mausoleum, near which there was then a great Mosque .

It was built in 1816, and around it was a lush garden with large fountains. The temple has an octagonal shape and only one minaret. Next to the "female" part of the mosque is a small pit, which earlier dervishes make a wish. If it came to pass on the ancient tradition, they were to serve this church. Therefore, the Hala Sultan Tekke, there are a few buildings, which were home to such people.

Besides the Umm Haram buried there several prominent Islamic figures.

At the moment, in the mosque almost non-existent service. Only twice a year on major holidays there prayers. All the rest of the mosque is open to all comers.
