In the seaside town of La Rochelle is one of the largest aquariums in Europe - the aquarium "La Rochelle." The center is home of marine and oceanic flora and fauna of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Basin. In total there are inhabitants of about 12 thousand species, including large and not so large predators (sharks and piranhas), jellyfish, seahorses, brightly colored tropical fish and many others.
On a visit to the aquarium, it is desirable to allocate a few hours to get around all the rooms, which are located 65 aquariums totaling about three million liters of seawater. It is worth noting that in 1988, when the aquarium opened, the volume of aquariums was six times lower and amounted to about 500 thousand liters. Capacity aquariums center increased after the reconstruction carried out in 2000.
Tour of "La Rochelle" begins with the "bottom of the sea" - the hall with the inhabitants of the deep sea, where visitors down the elevator. In this hall simulated "special effects" Deep Water: slight glimmer of twilight and water. Some aquariums in the form of tunnels, and visitors can see the fish and mammals that swim sideways, or directly overhead. Sometimes, these tunnels are more like a manhole leading to the center of the aquarium.
Some rooms are small amphitheater where you can sit and watch the measured life of sea creatures. Aquarium in a room is more like a giant flat screen TV. In one of the halls show the process of reproduction of marine life, this kind of "nurseries" for young fish.
In addition to entertainment features, the aquarium also performs scientific - are conducting research, giving lectures to students.
Aquarium "La Rochelle" is located in the city center, next to it is another interesting attraction - the Maritime Museum.
