Dragon Fountain - a fountain of the 16th century, located in Klagenfurge in Carinthia at the New Square. It is the main attractions in the city.

The fountain was created in 1583 by an unknown master. The sculpture is carved from a single piece of large chlorite, which was brought from the surrounding mountains. In 1634, around the fountain there was a forged metal grid with flowers of the late Renaissance, and 2 years later was added to the composition of a statue of Hercules, which represents a victory over the mighty dragon. The dragon head is a replica of the skull of a prehistoric rhinoceros, which was discovered near the town. Currently, the skull is kept in the Museum of the Land of Carinthia.

The composition of the fountain - a legend about how appeared Klagenfurt .  One of the many legends tells it this way: "A long time ago the lands were impassable swamp with dense forest .  There has always been a dark, damp and very scary .  None of the people did not dare to go in this terrible forest .  From time to time came the terrible swamp inhuman howl and roar .  Duke Karasta many times sent his brave soldiers to find out what kind of monster hiding in a thicket .  But nobody has ever had the courage to even the most brave warriors .  Then the Duke promised to give the land to those who dare to enter the forest and defeat the monster .  Sly soldiers built a lookout tower and built a stuffed bull, stuffed it inside the metal thorns and spines .  Bull put on the edge of the swamp, and themselves began to observe the scene from the tower .  It took a little time out of the swamp scary dragon jumped and grabbed the bull .  However, the choking thorns, lost control .  At the same moment, the brave warriors killed the dragon .  And where was the lookout tower, and built the city of Klagenfurt " .
