Famous historical museum of the city of Kingisepp (Leningrad region) is located on a picturesque coast of the Luga, in the central part of the medieval fort or fortress Yamburg, on the prospect of Karl Marx. The old museum building was built on the lowest layer of the ramparts and refers to 1910. As for the museum collections, they has a membership of more than twenty thousand copies, also currently receives all new items.

The museum was opened in the autumn of November 5, 1960. The main initiator of the museum was made by the Public Council, which became the main representative of DI Smolski - that this man was the first director of the cultural institution.

In 1978, in one of the buildings of St. Catherine's Cathedral, which was built by the order of Empress Catherine II the famous architect Rinaldi A . , It was first introduced fixed exhibition called "Old Yamburg" .  The exhibition presents unique archaeological finds unearthed in the area of ​​the fortress Yamburskoy and unusual collection, found at the burial mounds and provided household items, jewelry, weapons, amulets and talismans .  Unusually look Point of Swedish and Russian coins, dating back 16-20 centuries .  As you know, in the territory of a pre-existing fortress accommodated the following nations: Izhora, Votes, Finnish, Russian, Germans, Estonians - all these peoples left behind a heritage represented by household life, folk embroidery, weaving, clothes and tools .  Besides, in this section you can see the layout of the fortress Yamburg and learn about the most important events of history of the region .  One of the most amazing exhibits become holy face of the unknown girl, carved out of stone and the military chain mail, dated around the year 1703 .

The second museum exhibition called "Stopped moments." Here is a reconstruction of the photo shop where you can get acquainted with the historical development of photography, see the work of the most sought after photographers of 19-20 centuries and consider close Collector's Edition cameras, as well as old, pre-revolutionary photographs. More respect among the visitors enjoyed camera, dating from the early 20th century.

The exhibition "We live on the same land" - a private collection of ethnographic objects, dedicated to life, life, culture and occupations of the Finno-Ugric peoples. As you know, these people long ago settled the local area. The exhibition presents more than three hundred of valuable documents and objects. In the heart of the exhibition are Izhora postal sleighs, producing a big impression on many visitors. The third exhibition is called "Yamburgskoye citizens" and tells the story of the entire city during the 19-20 centuries. The greatest interest of visitors is trading exhibition Tula samovars, the most popular of which was the samovar called "Egoist". The list of items of interest were: fashion magazines, the electric incandescent lamp "Miracle", the bell to call the servants, collection of clocks, candlesticks, irons, and a harmonium.

Last room "Kingisepp in the Great Patriotic War" - a more than four present evidence of the war, including photos, flyers guerrillas, personal belongings, and front-line military letters, as well as various awards. The most memorable exhibits have become things of the Baltic PP pilot Titov, a search party found. Not only found objects, and important documents are preserved in good condition, therefore, helped to ascertain the identity of the pilot, who was previously listed as missing.
