The natural complex reserve "Dubrava near the village Velkota" was created with the support of the state and is located in the Leningrad region, and more specifically in Kingisepp district, close to the small village Velkota. Nature Reserve is a carefully protected natural territorial zone, which is under special control. "Oakwood at Village Velkota" were formed in mid-1976.
The purpose of the natural complex "Dubrava near the village Velkota" was timely preservation of the richest forest areas such as the elm trees, oaks, as well as a global set of nemoral plant species and the incredible beauty of parkland. In addition, of particular value are the source of the river Velkotka. Work Nature Reserve regulates state supervision, submitted in the name of the Government of Leningrad region, namely the Committee on Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Leningrad Region.
Zone location of the complex nature reserve stretches Ordovician plateau, which over the years evolved from the calcareous rocks. It is worth noting that the plateau consists of multiple forests that are in various quantitative abundance of rich oak, wood apple, elm, common honeysuckle, viburnum, and many other herbs and shrubs typical of the zone of deciduous forests. Particularly interesting is the fact that the age of some oaks in the reserve reaches a hundred or more years, with the height of the representatives comes to the level of 25 meters and a trunk diameter of more than half a meter.
In the south-east, which is closer to the edge of the village Velkota, is a large old park, the largest of the plantations which are the picturesque groups, as well as numerous single planting common in these lands trees. One of the features of the local area is a preponderance of broad-leaved plants, as well as so-called exotic species. In the illustrated park is a huge sinkhole, from the depths of which has a huge amount of natural keys, which give rise to local river Velkotka.
As for the fauna of this region, it is clear that here live fauna adapted to live in deciduous forests. The forest is home to a huge number of bands of common forest birds, but also you can see the nest of turtledoves, ordinary, gray owl, green woodpecker, chickadee marsh, nuthatch and many other birds. For the inhabitants of the natural forest reserve is a complex hare, yellow-necked mouse and some bats. Particularly rare to find deer, may be lucky enough to see that not everyone.
With regard to the regime of protection and protected objects, the specially protected objects include representatives of flora and fauna: old growth solitary trees, oaks, elms forest, numerous parklands, a large sinkhole with multiple outputs springs, tawny gray, green woodpecker, the turtle common and roe deer.
