Kem District Local History Museum "Pomorie" was established in 1980 on the initiative of the head of the culture department of OI Smolkovoy and collaborator of the magazine "Soviet Belomorie" VS Barkin. "History of the region from ancient times to the present day" - was the name of the first exhibition of the museum opened, which was devoted to the anniversary celebration - the 60th anniversary of the Karelian Labour Commune. Initially the museum base consisted of 80 items that tell about the way of life of coast-dwellers, as well as documentary evidence and historical records of the Karelian Pomerania. All of this was transferred to the museum of local lore IF Semenov. Over time, the museum joined other historical exhibits such as household tools, objects made of birch bark and traditional arts and crafts, fishing tackles.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the city in 1985. Kem museum moved to a historic building of the Treasury of the Solovetsky Monastery, built in 1763. Its new name - "Pomorie", the museum received in 1991. Municipal institutions Kem History Museum began in 2006.

Today the museum "Pomerania" presented a collection in the following areas: ethnography (antiques made of different materials); painting (presented in the form of paintings and icons); documents and photographs; book collection; numismatics and Bonistics.

All of the museum's collection collected in thematic exhibitions. The central exhibition called "spiritual and material culture Pomors Kem County." It occupies almost the entire area of ​​the museum (more than 200 square meters) and demonstrates the features of the economic and cultural life of coast-dwellers whose lives have for centuries been associated with the sea. The main focus of the exhibition is made on the environment Pomerania and visually divided into three parts: navigation, shipbuilding and marine fisheries.

Also in the museum you can visit other exhibitions .  Since 1999 is an exhibition "Orthodox shrines" .  At the very exhibition presents relics not only the official Orthodox Church (icons, prayer books, correspondence religious leaders), but also a collection relating to staroverchestvu (bronze pectoral cross and other artifacts) .  Ever since ancient times, Kem region was the residence of the Old Believers .  Currently, this religion has its followers in Kem region and is represented in the form of local history in the museum .  The exhibition "Merchant shop" you can see all sorts of steelyards, spring and pharmacy scales and weights, as well as other amazing and necessary items for the trade and merchant activity .  Since the end of 2000, the museum is an exhibition "Room Kem citizen beginning of XX century" .  Here you can see household items, a collection of furniture, clothing and personal items .  A selection of diverse dishes (wood, clay, copper) from 2001 can be seen at the exhibition "Pomeranian cuisine" .  All of the museum's collection, "Pomorie" have their own history and are arranged so that every visitor feel special atmosphere that leaves no one indifferent .

According to recent reports in the museum are more than 10,000 historical objects. More than 7,500 exhibits of the main fund and 2,700 scientific auxiliary fund. These include scripts dedicated Pomor culture, the Old Believers relics, objects of copper and a variety of household items: chests, samovars, kitchenware, irons and unique photographs, which keeps a history of the northern edge of Russia.
