In the northern part of Greece (Western Macedonia), on a small peninsula jutting into Lake Kastoria (Kastoria lake), which is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the Balkans, it is the town of Kastoria. The delightful scenery of these places, the ancient Byzantine churches, interesting museums, and of course, shopping every year attract many tourists.
One of the main attractions is the small but very interesting museum of monuments of Kastoria. The museum is located on the first floor of a residential building, located on the banks of Lake Kastoria. The founder of the museum was the Nikos Pistikos. For many years he spent all his free time to recreate in their works the most interesting historical and architectural monuments of Kastoria and its environs, as much as possible while maintaining the original aspect ratio and fine details.
Long and laborious work was successful and in 1991, a stunning model Nikos Pistikosa were first presented to the general public. Today in the Museum of the monuments you can admire the beautifully executed copies of old houses, ancient Byzantine churches and monasteries, and colorful stained-glass windows, typical for the interior of the houses of the old town. Of particular interest are the model of the city of Kastoria, and the reconstruction of a Neolithic settlement display.
In their models, Nikos Pistikosu with incredible precision managed to display the features of the traditional architecture of this area and undoubted elegance of the temple architecture of the Byzantine era.
