The largest city in Kingscote on Kangaroo Island, and is the first settlement of Europeans, founded here in 1836. Today the city's population is about 1,800 people. The first is the tourist, administrative and communication center of the island. There is a school, a modern hospital, a large supermarket, post office and administration building. Of particular interest is a pool brimming with during high tide. It is worth paying attention to the building of the hotel "Aurora Ozone Seafront" with a statue of a mermaid: it was opened in 1907 and today is a local landmark.

With a history of development and settlement Kangaroo Island Kingscote in general and in particular, can be found in the local museum "House of Hope" (Hope Cottage). This house was one of the first three buildings constructed in the city of about 1850, with the "House of Faith" and "House of Mercy" ("House of Faith" was later destroyed).

Kingscote you can see an old mulberry tree planted in the founding year of the city - 1836, and is still yielding fruit. Also worth a visit the local dairy and cheese-making, producing products made from sheep's milk, and the last in South Australia factory for proizvodstvuevkaliptovogo oil.
