Potya - the capital, the main port, as well as cultural and financial center of the Greek island of Kalymnos. It is located on the southern coast of the island in a beautiful natural bay.

Because of the constant threat of pirate raids islanders (and Kalymnos is no exception) are generally preferred to settle away from the coast in remote areas. By the 19th centenary of the threat has considerably decreased, and the islanders began to actively explore the coastal lands. So in 1850 and the city was founded Potya, which later became the capital of the island, replacing its predecessor - the choir.

Today Potya - a popular tourist area with excellent infrastructure. Here you will find an excellent choice of accommodation, as well as an abundance of cozy restaurants and taverns (most concentrated near the waterfront), where you can relax and enjoy excellent local cuisine with a wide selection of fresh fish and seafood.

Potya - an incredibly beautiful city with many elegant neoclassical mansions, interesting museums and beautiful temples. Among the main attractions of Poti and its environs it should be noted Kalymnos Archaeological Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Monastery of St. Sava, the Church of St. Nicholas and built in the 19th century church of Christ the Savior with a silver dome and marble iconostasis made by the famous Greek sculptor Yannulisa Halepasa. Special attention also deserves Potey located between Pera and Hora Castle (better known as the Castle Hrisoheriya), built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century. Nearby is the Cave and the Seven Virgins.

Rent a boat is in port, you can make a short trip along the picturesque coast of Kalymnos, and at the same time to visit the cave of Kefalos with impressive stalactites, which can reach only by boat.
