In the center of Kaliningrad, opposite the main building of the Kaliningrad University, is a sculptural composition "Fighting Bison", created in 1911 by the famous German animal painter of his time - the sculptor August Gaul. The composition is locked in a duel of two powerful bison, cast in bronze and mounted on the meter pedestal.
On the basis of numerous sketches and observations of many party animals Berlin Secession sculptor August Gaul sculpts figures grappled horns of bison. Once cast in bronze created an ensemble of sculptures, the pedestal and the pool with a fountain. The fountain consists of two holes in the pedestal, stylized under the sink, where the water flows into a rectangular pool. The original sculpture was intended to lock the Archbishop in Munster, but in 1912 was transferred to Konigsberg everything for hufen-alley (now - park at Prospect Mira) in the new building of the Supreme Court of East Prussia, near the Shtayndammskimi gate. Opening of the sculptural group "Fighting Bison" was held November 12, 1912.
The proximity of the courthouse sculptures of the residents of the city caused the association of struggle between two defenders and a monument to the people often called "the prosecutor and defense counsel." After the war, the sculpture was moved to the park area across from the administration in the late 1950s graced Kaliningrad Zoo, and by early 1970 was returned to its place. In Soviet times, the mighty Prussian bison bulls were renamed, and the courthouse is located at Kaliningrad University student café "bulls."
Today sculpture "Fighting Bison" is a monument of art (of regional importance) and historical attractions of Kaliningrad. The park surrounding the monument are regularly held small rock concerts and student activities.
