In the central area of Kaliningrad, in a small square in front of the Drama Theatre is a monument to the famous German playwright, historian, poet and humanist, professor and philosopher Friedrich Schiller. The historical value of the monument is established that he was 10 November 1910, still in Koenigsberg, Germany, and author of a work of art is the famous German sculptor Stanislav Kauer. The monument is a bronze figure of a full-length on a high pedestal with plaque, which is written the name of the poet in Russian and German languages and years of life.
Based on historical facts, we can say that the opening of the sculpture of the German thinker (never lived in Koenigsberg) was timed to the centennial of Koenigsberg Opera. The history of the theater (1810) start with setting Schiller's "William Tell." During the capture of Königsberg in 1945, the monument suffered from shell fragments, but was destroyed in the mid-fifties restored sculpture decorating the square was the playwright Regional Drama Theater. In 2007, the park was ennobled, and next to the monument there was a fountain.
Today Kaliningrad cultural landmark protected by the state, and the last ten years, the area around the monument has become a meeting place for creative people and the informal youth.
