One of the branches of Regional History and Art Museum is located in a picturesque location on the outskirts of Kaliningrad and a fortification of brick and concrete, built in the nineteenth century.

Fort №5, named in honor of the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III (head of state during the war with Napoleon), was part of a system of military facilities Koenigsberg and refers to a ring of forts "Night feather Koenigsberg."

The building has the shape of a hexagon surrounded by a moat, massive stone walls and earthen rampart .  Moat is equipped with trenches, firing positions for flamethrowers, machine guns, mortars and artillery shells .  With the surrounding area was connected to the fort drawbridge .  In order to camouflage the building was planted with trees and shrubs .  In 1886, the military structure was further covered by a two-meter reinforced concrete, was built rotating observatory dome .  Before the storm of Koenigsberg fort was fortified further: on the flanks dug anti-tank ditches, installed stockade, all adjacent area was mined and shrouded in barbed wire .  During prolonged assault on the fort was used by the Soviet army cannon special power, which resulted in a significant victory and destruction facilities .  During the siege and capture of Fort №5 in April 1945. Fifteen Soviet officers and soldiers were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .

In 1979, the ruins of Fort №5 handed Kaliningrad Regional History and Art Museum. In 2001, the fort was opened Museum of fortification and military equipment. Today on the territory of historical buildings are located: a war memorial in honor of those killed in the storming of the Soviet soldiers and military equipment exhibition, which presents the Soviet guns, Katyusha rockets, torpedoes, depth charges and a deck gun.

In the vicinity of military installations annually historical reconstruction, simulating the storming of Koenigsberg. Fort №5 is an object of cultural heritage (federal).
