One of the attractions of Kaliningrad is the Orthodox Church of the Holy Apostle Andrew, built on donations from organizations and parishioners in May 2007. Domed stone church in the style of the Novgorod-Pskov church architecture of the seventeenth century, was designed by architects AM Archipenko and S.V.Sychёvym.

Construction of the Church of St. Andrew was launched in October 2005 with the blessing of Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad. The foundation of the church was laid a capsule with soil brought from the Greek city of Patras, where the Apostle Andrew was crucified. Andrew was one of the first disciples of Christ, for which he was named in the Scriptures Andrew, and an oblique cross on which the apostle was martyred, since called St. Andrew. In Patras, the site of the crucifixion of the Apostle stands the largest cathedral in Greece, built in honor of St. Andrew, where he was taken to the land of Kaliningrad temple.

In September 2006, the construction of the temple visited by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II and consecrated the dome, and in May 2007, Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk made a rite of consecration of the new Orthodox church. At the ceremony attended by more than a half thousand people.

Today, the temple contains more than four hundred believers, is active missionary activity. In the church of St. Andrew regularly conducted the service, the sacrament of baptism and the regularly held talks with willing to accept Orthodoxy. Near the temple is a building of the Sunday School and the Orthodox kindergarten.
