On Mount Pagos majestically over the Izmir-preserved ruins of the castle, built by Lysimachus and rebuilt by the Byzantines in the IV century. The castle is a wonderful platform viewing, offering magnificent views of the Gulf of Izmir.

The local bishop Polycarp was martyred at Kadifekale by the Romans in 155 BC .. According to legend, when they tried to burn the saint, the flame did not touch him, and they had to slaughter their prey sharp dagger. Church of Sts. Polycarp was reconstructed in 1620 by Suleiman the Great and is the oldest building in the territory of Izmir.
